( open 0600 – 1800 hrs ) Snuggled in the western Ghats , one of the
world’s richest bio- diversity apots , is the fascinating natural
wild life sanctuary of Thekkady – the protected Periyar Tiger
Reserve.
Pandikuzhi : - (5 km from Kumily)
this picturesque spectrum of exotic flora, fauna & gurgling streams
is cradled between Chellarkovil and the Tamil Nadu border.
Pullumedu : - (43 km from
Thekkady, 26 km from Periyar) the winding journey to this hill town,
along the Periyar River offers a stunning view of the hills draped

Peermedu, the famous plantations town, takes its name from Peer
Mohammed, a Sufi saint and close associate of the erstwhile royal
family of Travancore. |

Vagamon : - (25
km from Peermedu) grass covered hills; velvet lawns & the cool
mountain air make Vagamon a perfect holiday retreat. The journey
from the Theekoy Valley to Vagamon is an unforgettable experience as
the mountain road zig zags uphill with steep, cloud touching hills
on one side and deep trenches which converge in the dark green
valleys below on the other side. Both sides of the road are fringed
with flowers of myriad colours and shapes and an occasional silvery
waterfall cascades girdling down the mountains
Kuttikanam : - A place for
adventure tourism & trekking
Peeru Hills :- (4 km from
Peermedu, 1 km from Kuttikanam) this idyllic hills station is a
favorite haunt of trekkers & picnickers.
Grampi :- (5 km from Peermedu,
10 km from Vandiperiyar) this place is also known as Parunthupara
(eagle rock) because of the panoramic view from its high peaks.

Altitude: 5000 – 8000 ft above sea level
Munnar or the “three rivers”, nestles amidst Western Ghats at the
confluence of three mountains streams. The lush landscape is dotted
with lakes, reservoirs, forests & several tea estates. The pepper,
rubber & cardamom plantations lend a distinct aroma to the cool &
bracing climate of the hill resort. Munnar also has the highest peak
in South India, Anamudi, which rises over 2695 m and is an ideal
spot for trekking. |

Pothanmedu: - (6 km from Munnar)
the rolling hills and the lush mountains here are ideal for trekking
& long mountain walks.
Devikulam: - (07 km from Munnar)
Devikulam or “the pond of Goddess” is named so, as it is believed
that Sita, the consort of Lord Rama, once bathed here in the lake.
This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora &
fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Devikulam
Lake is also ideal for trout fishing.
Attukad: - (09 km from Munnar) A
land of waterfalls and inviting green hills, Attukad, located
between Munnar & Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. The place is
excellent for long treks.
Nyayamkad: - (10 km from Munnar)
Located between Munnar & Rajamala, Nyayamakad is land of
breathtaking waterfalls.
Mattupetty: - (13 km Munnar)
Situated at a height of 1700 m, Mattupetty is known for its highly
specialized diary farm – the Indo Swiss Livestock project. The
Mattupetty Dam just a short distance from the farm is a very
beautiful picnic spot.
Lockhart Gap :- ( 13 Km from
Munnar) this is an ideal place for adventure tourism and trekking.
The fresh mountain air, the mist – clad hills and panoramic view
make it worth the visit.

Rajamala: - (15 km Munnar) this
is the natural habitat of the endangered Nilgiri Thar (Mountain
Goats). The total number of Nilgiri Tahrs in Rajamala is estimated
at 1317.
Top Station: - Located on the
Kerala‘s border of Tamil nadu, it affords a spectacular view over
the Western Ghats
Eravikulam National Park: - (15
km from Munnar) the main attractions of this park situated in the
Devikulam Taluk are the Nilagiri Tahr and the Neelakurinji flowers
that bloom just once in 12 years. The Highest peak in South India,
Anamudi (2695 m), is located in the southern region of the park.
Visiting time: - 0800 – 1700 hrs
Marayoor: - (40 km from Munnar)
this is the only place in Kerala that has a natural growth of
sandalwood trees.
Thommankuthu: - (17 km from
Thodupuzha) Famous for its seven – step waterfall, Thommankuthu is
an ideal place for adventure tourism, pedal boating, forest
trekking, night camping, bathing in the waterfall etc are some of
the activities possible here. |
